Gone with the Wind
Instead of us having a regular class day, we got to watch Gone with the Wind in the HPU theater. I remember watching the first part of this movie a long time ago, but I think I was too young to understand the movie; so I was happy we had the opportunity to watch it again. To start it off, since the movie is around four hours we only had the option of watching the first part; but it starts off before the civil war. In Georgia, a girl known as Scarlett O’Hara appeared to be a selfish, young woman who mostly wrapped her life around partying and flirting with men. The movie involves a predicament where Scarlett is deeply in love with a man, Ashley, that is bound to marry his cousin. Scarlett is extremely upset about this and decides to get dressed up and go confess her love to him, but her plans did not go her way. Ashley respectfully tells Scarlett that he can not marry her; she gets even more upset and angry about this rejection and goes on to marry Charles Hamilton in a blink of an eye.
After this, the Civil War begins. Charles ends up dying of disease in the war shortly after the war begins. Her reaction to Charles’ death was not what would be expected if someone's husband had just died in the war. She ends up falling into a depressed state because she has to be in mourning for her husband that she never actually liked and now she's going to be widowed. She ends up traveling to Atlanta to stay with her family members for a cheer-up that in fact works. She also ends up bumping into Rhett, which on the low she likes but doesn't admit it. Just to make situations better, Ashley ends up coming back for a little while on leave, and in a way kinda declares his love for her. He asks Scarlett to take care of Melanie while she's pregnant. With absolute perfect timing (sarcasm) Melanie ends up having her baby right as the Union forces are taking over Atlanta. With everything that's going on the doctor is not able to assist Melanie in labor; so it is up to Scarlett to deliver the baby herself, grant it, she's never assisted with delivery before. She sends one of the maids off to fetch Rhett, but Rhett ends up not being able to help her. Melanie ends up having a healthy baby; then Scarlett has to manage to take her back to Tara. The road was not easy but they ended up getting there.
When they eventually get back to tara; Scarlett comes to find that Ellen, her mother, has died of disease and that both of her sisters are sick. Also that her father is going through a rough time with his grief. So if you can imagine this was an extremely rough time. On top of that, the Yankees have taken the majority of everything. Scarlett understands these circumstances and understands what she has to do. She takes care of everyone. Then the Reconstruction era begins where she decides to travel to Atlanta to ask Rhett for help by marrying her. She comes to Rhett in jail for murdering a black man; which means he is in no position to help her. So Scarlett ends up marrying another man for his money. Rhett evenly gets out of prison and gives Scarlett money to borrow. Time passes where eventually Scarlett actually ends up marrying Rhett, but it wasn't a whole love story. They do though have a baby girl who they named Bonnie, but Rhett ends up leaving with Bonnie to New Orleans due to a jealousy problem when Scarlet comes in contact with Ashley. Shortly after this, Scarlett finds out she's pregnant and Rhett comes back, but not under nice circumstances. Rhett and Scarlett begin an argument, and Rhett says that it would be better off if she lost the baby. Scarlett was extremely offended by what he said. Swings and Rhett, misses, falls down the stairs. This resulted in Scarlet having a miscarriage and nearly dying. On top of this disaster, not too long after that, Bonnie ends up dying from a horseback incident. Rhett and Scarlett are devastated, and all these tragedies, it ends up pushing Scarlett and Rhett just more and more apart.
At this time the reconstruction has come to an end; Atlanta is back under the control of the southern democrats. Melaine has died from a miscarriage and Scarlett realizes that Ashley was a dumbass and that she really does love Rhett. She goes off to confess her love for Rhett but basically has a slap in the face when Rhett tells her that he used to love her, but doesn't feel that way anymore and he's off to travel now. Fun fact, I actually had a bunch of the Scarlett barbies in all her dresses when I was a kid!
